Flow: A Minimalist OLED Lamp

Providing Warm, Non-Glare Ambient Light

Flow is designed with the intention of complementing a balanced lifestyle. The lamp's inspiration comes from the flow of a Sun Salutation yoga practice, which combines light and movement. The OLED panels used in Flow emit a soft, natural light that is free from glare, UV, and excessive heat, creating a healthy environment.

What sets Flow apart is its design and functionality. The lamp consists of two 0.4mm OLED panels placed on thin brushed aluminum frames, forming a shape of either a letter U or S, depending on how they are positioned. The aluminum elements can be disconnected and inserted upside down, allowing for four different shape configurations. The relationship between the marble base, the aluminum pole, and the light panels creates a dynamic and organic motion structure.

Flow's technical specifications include a height of 1500mm (pole), a width of 850mm, and a depth of 300mm. The lamp is made using a combination of marble for the base, aluminum for the pole and panels, and LG OLED panels for the lighting component.

Interacting with Flow is simple and intuitive. Users can adjust the lighting effects by playing with the positioning of the two curved arms, creating different shapes such as a U or a wavy pattern. The OLED panels also have two lighting settings, allowing users to choose between lighter or darker lighting.

The design and realization of Flow took place in London between 2017 and 2018. During the design process, Mikolaj Dymowski faced challenges in utilizing the versatile nature of OLED panels without creating overly complicated structures. The focus was on prioritizing meaningful functions that would enhance the desired outcome.

Flow has received recognition for its innovative design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures category in 2018. This prestigious award is bestowed upon outstanding designs that showcase creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills, contributing to quality of life improvements.
